In a world where melee weapons predominate, the Thracians can be a very strong faction owing to their ability to raise heavy infantry quickly from the Barracks. This is quite a very useful trait to have as a national bonus, since Metal is rather scarce and difficult to obtain for most factions in Hammurabi. Thracian martial prowess is further amplified thanks to their free Military research level, and the number of mercenaries they are able to raise, thus ensuring that the Thracians have some rather useful counters to most types of units, be they light infantry, or heavy infantry and chariots which all but predominate in Asian armies.

Overall, the Thracians are a well-rounded faction, being good not just on attack and defence alone, but also endowed with some economic bonuses that in turn do help feeding its war machine in the long run. Since Metal early on must be traded for as opposed to mined, and vast numbers of mercenaries cost Wealth, a Thracian player can rest assured that there will be extra Wealth on hand to purchase more mercenaries should the need for it be there. The only issue with the Thracians, however, is that they are forever locked into militaristic games, owing to their near-lack of Wonders, thus weakening their ability to obtain a Wonder victory or to establish diplomacy with AI players.
