Living in a vast and harsh wilderness of mountain and rock has honed the Rong peoples of Rma, the lands of mountain between India and China, as tough and as uncompromising as the very mountains which they hold sacred and as such, Xirong units are proficient at raiding In fact, raiding was a main source of income for the Rong peoples - and in Hammurabi, it too is no exception.

While most Xirong units are fairly weak, one unit stands out - and that is the Steppe Nomad, shared with the Iranians. This unit is extremely powerful, especially in a game where everyone else has inferior cavalry units and can be very difficult to block. Used right, in vast numbers Steppe Nomads can be used to "farm" enemy factions for resources, especially Food which can then later be ploughed back into urban development, or further building up an army of Skirmisher Levies and Spearmen. Still, the Xirong have few choices, and even more so on the water - an experienced player usually will have churned up archers for use against the Xirong. Equally troubling is the fact that neither one of the two mainstream sword units, Swordsmen and Guardsmen, aren't available, leaving the Xirong at the mercies of factions like the Minoans or Thracians who have bonuses to Fort construction and usage.

The only defence for the Xirong thus is simple - strike early and often, and as hard as possible, using the Steppe Nomads to "clear up" as many Peasants as possible, leaving only in the face of resistance. Extra resource obtained should not be invested in anything other than military research, in order to create an even larger army for seizing territory (to build Assemblies and Councillors), thus magnifying the amount of resources available for use while preventing an opponent from growing too large and powerful.
